Small & Medium Sized Law Firms

Services for Law Firms

SME Law Firms

Law Consultancy Services (LCS) started life as Law Computer Services Limited.  LCS  was  formed in the 1980’s as a facilities management company for a high street firm of solicitors.  The company developed a ‘turnkey system’ – a package of computer(s) printer(s) and all the software necessary to vastly increase efficiency and improve productivity – particularly in the Conveyancing process.  The unique systems we created were sold to other solicitor practices.  Later, as such systems become common place, emphasis turned to general productivity.

LCS is now a boutique consultancy company led by Lisa Preuveneers, author of “What is the Strategic Nature of an SME Law Firm?” More information may be found on our Consultancy Services and Programmes. SMEs are the heart of the UK economy and make up 99.9 per cent of the nation’s business population yet remain largely unserved when it comes to the provision of practical, ongoing management advice. As Lisa’ working life has been spent working with and for the legal profession, it is to this, the legal sector, that mentoring, coaching, one-off or ongoing consultancy services are offered.

According to the UK’s Companies Act 2006, a small company has less than 50 employees, a turnover of less than £6.5 million, and a balance sheet total of less than £3.26 million.  The usual definition of medium sized enterprises is any business with fewer than 250 employees.

Firms of all sizes face the same business challenges – just, in the case of SMEs, with less people onboard to provide guidance and perspective. The functions of business may be roughly grouped as follows:

Operations: the delivery of the value proposition
HR: managing people, including yourself
Marketing: finding the clients; better still, facilitate the client to find you
IT: the use of information technology and cybersecurity tactics
Admin: compliance and efficiency
Finance: turnover = vanity: profit = sanity: cash flow = reality
